Question: Should I hire a home stager before or after my house is on the market?
Top Answer (89% of 216 votes): Before the house is on the market.

Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: In most home selling situations, a home shows better with furniture. Staring at a ceiling, floor and four empty walls make it hard for buyers to visualize their own belongings in the home. If buyers can't picture themselves living there, they are not likely to buy it. Home staging can mean the difference between a sold or expired listing. Staging often brings a higher price for the home; some stagers estimate sellers make seven to 10% more when a home is staged. It doesn't really cost to stage, it pays. Staging a living room, as with any other room in the house, is done to evoke emotions because buyers need to fall in love with the home. They buy on emotion, not logic.

ProMatcher
Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: It is better to hire a stager prior to listing your home so that it will be show ready from the first moment it gets on the listing service. It also means that realtors often bring a series of other realtors to look at their new listings and those people will see your home at its best and hopefully recommend a showing to their clients. It is possible to stage after the home has been listed and if that is done I strongly recommend that you take the home off the market for a few days and then re-launch it as a new listing to get maximum exposure. So the simple answer to the question is you can do either , before or after but it is better to stage before you go on the market.

ProMatcher
Answer: After the house is on the market
Explanation: You list the home first and have your Realtor recommend the best home stager for your type of home. I've seen home stagers make disastrous changes to a listing that would fit the trend in other locations or other types of homes, but simply do not flow with the location and style of the home being sold. Realtors provide a plethora of information, from good movers, to good contractors, to good attorneys and yes, good stagers. Trust your Realtor to provide this information for you. If you do not trust your current Realtor / Agent to provide such vital information, then perhaps you should consider hiring a different Realtor (George L. Rosario).

Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: When you put your home on the market potential buyers will see the home as soon as it is live on the MLS which is picked up by Realtor.com and other Real Estate Listing websites. Buyers working with an agent will receive a report showing the latest houses that are available for sale or the buyer has an advanced search set up on a real estate listing site to receive updates when a home is listed. For this reason, you should stage your home first before listing your home. The initial interest then is captured versus waiting until you receive feedback from buyers if your home is not staged or staged poorly. Professionally staged homes sell 87% faster when staged prior to listing.
Downriver Home Staging LLC
Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: The first two weeks of a listing are the most active. You want to put your best foot forward from the get-go. If you don't stage before going on the market, you will miss making a good first impression on the largest number of potential buyers. The number of showings start slowing down so that, even if the home is now staged and appealing to buyers, it will have been on the market longer and thus get lower-priced offers.
